I started back to school on Monday. It was a very overwhelming day. I think I'm going to like Sociology, I got to Spanish and realized I had forgotten a lot of the vocabulary from last semester, and then I got to Algebra and I wanted to run screaming from the room. And in the midst of all of that I still had no idea what I was supposed to do for my Speech class (online).
So, when I finally found the speech class and what all it entailed, I dropped it. Immediately. It's just not the type of class that I think I can do online. Plus, I was going to have to tape myself giving all of my speeches and I don't have any type of video recorder, except on my camera, and they don't accept digital copies. I'm actually pretty relieved.
I'm having to study my ass off just to refresh myself in Intermediate Algebra concepts. I'm very askeered of the Algebra. It took me an hour today to do a homework set consisting of 14 questions. I suck at math in general, and it's been 7 years since I've taken any type of math course. The book we're using has several review chapters in the beginning, so I've been going over them. Some of it is coming back to me, but I don't ever remember learning how to complete the square or the quadratic equation formula. Maybe I did, but I sure don't remember it.
So anyway, that's what I've been doing this week. It's been a busy week, and I haven't had a lot of time to get online, and I probably won't have much time for the rest of this semester. I should have a good handle on algebra by the end of it, though! :D

Sounds like dropping Speech was a smart choice. Are there math tutors available through the school? I worked as a free (to the students) tutor for a while through the library. I would totally be in the same boat if I had to take Algebra again!
Yes, there are tutors available, it's just a time issue. I have to drive 30-45 minutes to get to school, and on the days I go I leave right after dropping the kids off, go to three classes in a row with only ten minutes in between, and then have 50 minutes to get back home to pick them up again. I also don't have a sitter for Maggie on my days off. But I will definitely look into that if there is no way to teach myself through the book. I can't fail the class, and I can't drop another one, so I have to stick it out.
And here I thought I'd have a less stressful time this semester. I already had a meltdown after working for two hours on my homework last night and only scoring a 77.
Don't meltdown! It must be incredibly frustrating to study so hard and not do as well as you expect (although a 77 isn't bad). Do you know what the problem was with the test?
I have no idea what the problem was. It was over quadratic equations, which I thought I was understanding after going through that section and working through all the examples. But when it came time to do the homework, I thought I was doing the problems correctly, but wasn't getting the correct answers.
Another thing is the homework only consists of up to like 16 questions (of 6 homework sections so far, 16 has been the most. One only had 4!). So you really can't miss many without significantly lowering your grade.
We do our homework through a website called Math XL, so we get our grade as soon as we're finished. All the homework grades are averaged into one grade that is then averaged in with our quiz average, 3 tests and final exam.
